Wild Turkey Convention

I’ve been pretty absent from the site for about a week because my parents were in town visiting from Louisiana.  They left last Friday so that they could attend an event at the National Wild Turkey Federation’s headquarters in Edgefield, SC.  You see, my dad’s hobby is turning trumpet style turkey calls…and he has become really good at it.  You can see some of his work here.

Anyway, I know this site is supposed to be about Lake Murray, but I find it very interesting that the NWTF has it’s headquarters in little ol’ Edgefield.  Admittedly, I have not been there.  However, it looks like a pretty impressive place with over 30,000 sqft that holds the headquarters, a museum, an outdoor education center, a conference center and a gift shop.  So if you’re ever out that way, it might be worth stopping by.

Who is Joshua?

I am from the “big city” of Mullins, South Carolina. I grew up in Mullins where my father and grandfather taught me the value of an honest day’s work, the importance of excellent customer service, and the significance of developing lasting client relationships. My father and grandfather own a service station in Mullins where I worked after school and on the weekends for as long as I can remember. What I learned while working at the station has greatly influenced the man I am today.

I am a graduate of Charleston Southern University. I played basketball for Charleston Southern and since graduating have tried to stay very active to avoid getting old. I enjoy both playing and watching almost any sport and being very involved with my church, Northside Baptist in West Columbia. I have, however, come to have another passion in life, the mortgage industry.

I am happy to say I am passionate about my job. I love being a mortgage originator. Most days I just can’t stop talking or thinking about it! There is something to be said about helping a person buy a home and knowing that you played a major part in making it happen. Whether it is a first-time home buyer or an entrepreneur looking to buy their first investment property, I want everyone that I help to look back on the home buying process and have a positive recollection of their experience.

Going to Belize

Hopefully you are coming here to Lake Murray Life to check for updates often. First of all, I appreciate you for that. Secondly, you’ll notice a definite lack of activity here next week. That’s because my wife and I are heading off to Belize with some friends for a vacation. I’ll see you back here in July.

Great Weather!

It’s Memorial Day Weekend…The unofficial start of summer.   I don’t know about you, but I’m heading to the lake!  It’s shaping up to be wonderful weather for Lake Murray on the holiday weekend.  Weather.com says it’ll be 89, 90 and 91 degrees on Sat, Sun, and Mon.  It also uses phrases like “Plentiful Sunshine” which are good to see when you’re going out on the water.

Get yourself on the lake this weekend then come back here and tell us about it.  It’ll be busy so be safe.  Don’t drink and drive (boats included).  Designated drivers save lives on the water, too.

Purpose

I see the purpose of this blog as being twofold:

1. To create a place on the internet where current residents of the Lake Murray area can go for updated information about what’s going on.
2. To show prospective residents of the Lake Murray area what a wonderful place this is to live.

Who Is Seth?

First of all, I’m the author of this blog. I am also the husband of my beautiful wife and “daddy” of two small dogs. I am a Realtor with Coldwell Banker United, Realtors which is why this site has a slight slant toward real estate.

I love real estate! It is not only my chosen profession, it is what drives me. I love the effect it has on people: The look on the faces of a young couple just buying their first house; The excitement in the eyes of the retired couple when I tell them what their house is worth now, 25 years after they bought it, and that they can afford their dream home! I have been in real estate for a little over three years and it is certainly more than a job to me.

I am originally from a small town in Louisiana and I came to South Carolina via the U.S. Navy. While I was in Charleston, I met the wonderful young lady who would eventually become my wife. She was born and raised in Irmo, so when she finished school in Charleston she wanted to move back home. I wanted her to be happy, so here we are. I didn’t know too much about the area before we moved here, but I have come to love it and it is now my home.
