The Martins are Coming
What you see above is a radar image of over 700,000 purple martins leaving their roost on Lunch Island in the middle of Lake Murray. The image was captured by researchers at Clemson University using NEXRAD. That’s a lot of birds!
If you’d like to go see this amazing sight, the South Carolina Wildlife Federation has just the thing for you. They have scheduled this year’s Purple Martin Cruise for Tuesday, July 17th, from 7:30 to 10:30 pm. The cruise will be hosted by Sara Green on The Southern Patriot Tour Boat. Cost for the cruise is $35 and that includes a boat pass, hors d’oeuvres, beer, wine and sodas. The cruise is only open to SCWF members and their guests, so visit their site to join if you’re not a member.
