    Lake Murray Submarines!

So my wife, Jo Leigh, and I tried out the new sub shop on Marina Road called Lake Murray Submarines and we were very impressed.  They’ve been open for a couple of months now, and the girl behind the counter said that business is good.  All of the Signature Subs are $6.99 and for that meager price you’ll get 6 ounces (more than 1/3 of a pound) of Premium Boar’s Head Deli Meats toasted on your choice of bread and served with chips and a pickle spear.

I ordered the sandwich that has the same name as the restaurant…the Lake Murray Submarine.   It was stacked high with Black Forest Ham, Ovengold Turkey, Londonport Roast Beef and topped with Provolone cheese.  Two words–Really Good!  Also, they serve the subs with a side of sauce that is somewhat similar to Thousand Island dressing but certainly has a slight twist to it.

Jo Leigh chose the “Build Your Own” option and built herself a ham and cheese on wheat.  She particularly liked the way that the lettuce was shredded.  It was so fine that it was as if it had been run through a cheese shredder.  She chose to substitute fries for her chips for an extra $.99.  Also, she ate my pickle because I hate pickles!

All in all, it was a very good experience.  It’s a little more expensive that the Subway right up the street, but the old saying is true:  You get what you pay for.  Plus there’s just something satisfying about supporting a local business.   Two thumbs up.

I agree with you. I have been twice and both times the sandwiches have been great. The quality is much better in their meats, veggies and cheeses. It is all very fresh tasting. The dipping sauce that they serve with the sandwiches is also very yummy :) Another thing I like is that the atmosphere is very laid back. It is quickly becoming one of my new favorite places to eat.
